You can also download copies of your books for backup from your account's "My Nook Library" on the BN website. Each book in your library has a "Download" button, even samples too. With a Mac using the Safari web browser, the default download format is PDB files which are not compatible with the NOOKcolor. To change the download format to EPUB files, follow these steps:

1) In Safari, go to Preferences > Advanced. Then check the box that says "Show Develop menu in menu bar". You will now see "Develop" in the menu bar between the Bookmarks and Window menus.
2) From the menu bar, select Develop > User Agent > Internet Explorer 8.0. This effectively makes your browser appear to be IE rather than Safari to the Barnes and Noble website. It will think you are on a PC rather than a Mac.
3) Now download your books at the BN website, and they will be EPUB format.
