Those are "grey market" goods and their legal status (what a court is willing to enforce) continues to be fluid. But I'm sure those weren't owners of a single item selling it used, but mass importers trying to get around licensing restrictions.

The whole issue of items bought outside the US is pretty far astray from what the first sale doctrine was intended to protect under copyright law.
