From PDF, I usually go Mobipocket Creator, which creates an html file which can be loaded into Sigil along with the images. Not so many extra calibre classes etc. that way.

Right. I've just renamed from "epub" to "html" extension. That works well sometimes. This doc wouldn't even work with Mobipocket... it was too big!
