Today I'm remembering
Sir Roy Calne, my mother-in-law's cousin, who died last night, aged 93.
He was an exceptional surgeon, and his work on transplantation lead to tens of thousands of lives being saved.
But perhaps more importantly personally, he was a very good man, with time for wider family as well as his own. I met him a couple of times at family events, and once stayed at his house when my wife was admitted to hospital in Cambridge unexpectedly.
Others are carrying on his work, but his family will, of course, always miss him.
