I've been trying to use this tweak:

sort_columns_at_startup = [('authors',0),('title',0)]

That and this "[('authors',0),('series',0)]" work.
But "[('date',0),('series',0)]" or "[('date',0),('series',0)]" doesn't seem to be working as it should.
Is this a bug?
