Secondly, Apple uses a higher quality lcd unlike the competitors. There is a reason why an IPS 24" monitor goes for $500+, while a TN 24" monitor is $199.
People think Apple could sell a retina display along with a $249 price along with 32GB of space and that is an expectation that not even the Kindle Fire HD is able to handle. Amazon is even putting ads on theirs!
Next year will be an upgrade to the iPad mini with faster processor, IGZO screen, and more ram. Don't expect a retina display.

I disagree, but you're perfectly entitled to your opinion. The fact that a 10" tablet with 300dpi costs only 20% more than the mini is proof that you could give the mini retina display without costing the earth. There is also a 5" phone now with a 1920x1080 (440 dpi) screen, so the technology is there, whatever reasons apple had to go with a low dpi, technology limitations were not one of them.
