The Kobo and the Kindle turn pages at around the same speed, so once you're in a book there is very little difference (although I do find it can sometimes take more than one swipe or press to turn the page). It's the operation outside of actual reading that the Kindle does quicker - so in real terms there is no difference for the intended function, although if you had them side by side in a shop and were playing with them, the faster Kindle would appear to be the better piece of kit.
I was interested to note though that the Kindle wouldn't download pdfs through its browser, whereas the Kobo did quite happily.
