The article quoted by the OP is a flame article, based on one true statement, that the music industry has some real profit problems, followed by a "maybe this is caused by piracy" flimsy statement that the entire remaining article is based on. There are no other reasons suggested for or discussions about the problems of the music industry, like high prices, alblums with one or two great songs and a bunch of filler junk songs, etc. The new digital download industry has enabled people to better equip with themselves with the music they want, without the old high prices and old filler junk! Unfortunately, this means a big change the the music industries' old business model, and for a large part they are in denial about that. It's a lot easier to blame your problems on someone else, in this case, the pirates.
As these industries transition from a physical analog world to a digital world, they will deny that they themselves are the reason behind the lack of profits, it's alway's going to be blamed on piracy or Amazon or whatever. And it's easy to take a narrow view and believe them.
