It has nothing to do with being a sheep. Amazon succeeds the same way Bose succeeds. People want quick, easy to operate, understand gizmo's that do what they say they can do. Both of these companies succeed by giving people exactly what they want.
Not everyone is interested in all the geeky details that some of you thrive on.
