Have you tried uninstalling what you currently have, installing the latest ADE, then installing the new Sony software?

Assuming, of course, that you have the 2.5 install files so that you can go back, if you want to do so.

Also, if on vista or W7, I'd turn the install program as the adminstrator (not just as an administrator equivalent user).
