Translated from the French by Clarence Forestier-Walker.
This story purports to give an accurate account of Turkish harem life in the 1870s, and features romance, intrigue and a lot of jewellery.
The climax is the coup d’état which dethroned Sultan Abdul Aziz, and its aftermath.
The anonymous author may have been a French diplomat’s daughter.
