okay, i've just re-read this entire thread with all the spoilers. crikey ! to be honest, i'm not sure i would have figured this out on my own, even if i had had enough time to really think about it (i didn't, this week).
that was a brilliant puzzle though, thank you pdurrant ! i hope you'll post some more.
