Well, apparently marketing is powerful enough so that an inferior product can be sold at a higher price. This has been demonstrated for many products, cosmetics are the most obvious example. So is beer.
How many prospective buyers really understand all the competing products in a market? This is real life, not economics 101 "the enlightened consumer who makes perfectly rational decisions".
