Are you scanning the whole page as a single large image? I would think that wouldn't look very good rescaled.
Maybe you should try using rescaling the image on your computer using a high quality bicubic resample. I think the DX display is 1200x800 or something close to that.
Most sheet music off the internet is typeset so of course its going to look better than a single page scan.
