It sounds to me like the wifi function of your particular unit is defective. Mine found not only my wireless network (the router was in another room), but my next door neighbors' network, which is a pretty good distance, given the size of the lots around here.

My unit isn't quite as bad as Rebecca's, but it does have by far the worst Wifi ability of any of my gadgets.
