Oh, I dunno. The books work well stand-alone. You just miss the small references to things (or people) that have happened before. Anything *needed* is explained in each book.

The ones after "Seize the Night" seem to be veering in a different direction, and (as far as I've read so far) don't involve Acheron and his Dark Hunters quite as much. That could be a big part of the reason for releasing "Seize the Night" just before "Acheron" comes out in August. That, plus "S th N" has a few big blow-ups (contretemps; confrontations) that will probably matter in future books.
