Friedrich Gerstäcker (1816-1872) ist eigentlich bekannt für seine Reiseberichte und Abenteuerromane, aber er hat auch anderes geschrieben. Die Erzählung "Ruine Wildenfels" wurde 1866 in Die Gartenlaube veröffentlicht.
