Here murder was done in a quiet settlement of the English countryside, but there was more than one ghost. Why had Stella Nelson been with the murdered man in the middle of the night, shortly before the fatal shot? Who was the mysterious blackmailer who had all England in fear? Why did Scottie reform? Why didn't the famous detective, Andy MacLeod, do his duty? A most entertaining detective story, and Edgar Wallace at his best.
