I have a friend who is 80+, still riding since he could get a license, and I'm pretty sure he would echo HarryT's advice.

My brother-in-law, 65+, has long since stopped advising friends about buying motorcycles - he said he lost too many of them to poorly developed reflexes.

So if you are over 40, in addition to HarryT's advice, I'd say "Be Careful, and practice a Lot!"
