I'm guessing abigfan is already using the plugin - would have been a long day counting getting up to 115440 without it

To answer your question, go to the configuration screen for the plugin (either choose "Customise plugin..." from its own menu, or get to it via Preferences -> Plugins. Just make sure you have the right column(s) set in the two dropdowns for page/word count - if you only have one custom column then in your case you will want to make sure that the custom column in the "Word count options" section is blank.
