Of course, you can do what I do. After generating the combined file, I just put that into Calibre and use Kindleunpack to split the files into KF8 & Mobi. Then you can replace the combined file in Calibre with the version you want to read and same even more space.

Is there somewhere a list of all options, e.g. generate either mobi or kf8?
