Keep in mind we may have saw DRM free music on iTunes rather late but the main reason the music industry was willing to start loosening DRM was to help create competition against Apple. You need powerful companies to popularize and create standards to help reduce the power of the publishers. We should all be supporting Amazon and the Kindle now, of only to break the power of the publishers. Eventually it'll swing around and Amazons power will need to be checked and we should support that. In the end we get reasonable prices, more flexible format and DRM options and the consumer wins.
