--edit, not sure if this helps, unfamiliar with 'extract/fix/repack process'

i think you'd need to do a couple of passes to turn 1.jpg into 001.jpg, 11.jpg into 011.jpg, etc.

Code:
(.*?\s)(\d)(\.jpg)
\100\2\3

and then
(.*?\s)(\d{2})(\.jpg)
\10\2\3
