I am sure this question will have been asked before but, if so, I cannot find an answer, so I aplogise in advance for asking it.

In the Uk I cannot buy the Kindle at the moment but I am hesitating about the Sony Reader. What would tip it for me would be if I can buy ebooks from amazon.co.uk or amazon.com which I can read on the Sony and if the native kindle format can be converted to read on a Sony.

Further I keep reading about many sites for ebooks but have never come across any site listing these and which let a novice know if they are OK on the Sony.

Here's hoping someone can help.
