I used sleeves for several years prior to the PW (the magnetic on-off feature drew me back to book-style covers). Sleeves are great,but often provide inadequate protection from other items you may be carrying in a backpack or bag. I came to prefer zippered hard cases where possible instead, and used this one for two years with a Kindle Touch. The Paperwhite also fits just fine in it:
