I use the light on my Aura because I - somewhat capriciously - chose the white model and without the light the screen feels too grey. On my Kindle and other Kobos I'll quite happily read based on the ambient light but not the Aura. It's my one regret about buying the Aura.
I've never owned a Sony but I might be tempted if the spec is decent. I've played with a couple of earlier models but they always seemed over-priced.
