For any Patricia Cornwell fan, I agree with FizzyWater's suggestion of Kathy Reichs (which bears little resemblance to the Bones TV series that was based on it) - and I'm surprised no-one's suggested Jefferson Bass' Body Farm series yet (if they have, I'm less surprised that I've missed it )
