Heart (Italian: Cuore) is one of the most popular Italian children's novels, written by Edmondo De Amicis. It is pleasant reading for adults, as well.
It is set during the Italian unification. It was published by Treves on October 18, 1886, the first day of school in Italy, and instantly became a tremendous success.
The novel is written in a diary format, as told by Enrico Bottini, a 10-year old primary school student in Italy. The entire chronological setting corresponds to the third-grade season.
I've also incorporated the mini NYT review from 1895.
