I've come to realize they're poorly edited. The collection I got (Is That What People Do? by Robert Sheckley) has OCR-ed text, and one of the stories is actually a duplicate of another story.

In case anybody else is interested, the duplicated story is "All the Things You Are." The missing story is "Fear in the Night"--the title's there, but the text is that of "All the Things You Are."
