Thank you both for your responses.

I'm not sure why I was under the impression that in order to correctly download and read Google Play book purchases, I would need to authorize ADE with my Google credentials, however once I authorized ADE, (2.0.1), with my Adobe credentials, I was able to download and read both new, and old, ebook purchases from Google, without issue.
