Perhaps. But as the problem first occurred in the middle of a system update, i.e. writing to the microsd, and the fault has worsened since removing, testing, replacing the microsd... there's certainly evidence it could be the microsd at fault.

EDIT: Apologies, confused this thread with another where the user experienced a problem after an upgrade. Less evidence that it's the mocrosd card... but if you have the time and don't mind picking up some new skills it couldn't hurt to try.

If you have a spare 8GB+ working microsd to hand, there's certainly no harm in trying to flash a working image to it. The only thing you'd lose is the time in trying.
