==============
William Wilkie Collins (8 January 1824 – 23 September 1889) was an English novelist, playwright, and short story writer.
Collins remains most famous for his novels
The Woman in White (1859) and
The Moonstone (1868), in which he pioneered a new style of “sensation” writing, the influence of which can still be seen in today’s culture in the genres of crime, mystery and suspense.
The Moonstone is considered to be the first modern English detective novel.
He is also noted for his close relationship with Charles Dickens, who regarded him as the most talented of his many protégés.
