Well yes, I was using mobi as a general term but many Kindles in the field and some other eBook readers will not read KF8 and so KindleGen always makes both inside the same file. While pure mobi is older it is still necessary at present. KindleGen does not use the KF8 extension on a file even if it really is KF8 inside. I know it isn't clean.
