But the -mode fw option turns on -ls, so -ls- after it is okay.

If nothing else, I believe you can get the djvu page count be running a brief k2pdfopt conversion (-p 1 -rt 0 -a-), redirecting the output to a file, and then parsing it for the page count.
thanks for the advice. It works resonably well and fast with couting the "DJVU" tags in the file. Takes a few seconds max. and if your file is that large you won't really notice this time compared to the conversion time :-)
Would be a lot nicer if I could read the DIRM chuck, but I can't really find the information where it is supposed to be in the file. I don't know why but..whatever, main thing is that it works.
