- You will need a *special* USB hub which provides power on the upstream port in order to test the OTG host mode. Alternatively a USB-Y-Cable should do, with the additional power line being connected to your laptop. See here for instructions on how to build such a cable

Further work still needs to be done such that it becomes possible to connect also normal hubs to the Kindle. Only reason why you need a powered hub is that the Kindle's USB port notices that there is activity on the port and wakes it up from low power suspend mode.
