Some readers are "making fun" - escpecially, when the epub consists of more than one book and with the first opening they don't jump to the first cover...
I think that the best solution in such cases is to manually remove the "linear" attribute from a generated EPUB file. You could easily do this with the tweak_epub
utility. Just open your EPUB file with the tweak_epub
utility, and remove linear="no"
from the "content.opf" file.
