The Kindle in its case is almost exactly the same size as a computer game plastic case or a DVD set of a TV series season. I know because I just checked it against my Chessmaster CD case and my Eureka season 2 DVD set.
But, the Kindle, inside its case, isn't as thick and tapers to one side. It's considerably less bulky than your average full-size hardback novel.
