I'm of Irish decent and the Irish used to make jack-o-lanterns out of turnips and a coal ember (I did a quiz on it last year), so I figured the Scots might have too.
You have a basket full of kittens. There are five kittens in the basket, and you have five friends who would each like a kitten, so you give each of these friends one kitten. None of your friends had started out with a kitten, and after you distributed the kittens each one of your friends has a kitten. However, there is one kitten still left in the basket. How is this possible?
