There's something to be said about the kindle/iPad combination. Since the iPad has a kindle app you could seamlessly switch devices and have your books, pages and notes in sync on each.

Although that advantage might not apply to books you load from other stores, so if amazon isn't your usual store, it's not such a compelling feature
