Apple tends to have a high margin business and tends to target consumers who are willing to spend more. Sure, they've recently started chasing the bargain bin folks too with a $40 3GS and a cheap ip4 model to replace that as the ip5 approaches, but on average the Apple consumer is still a more liberal spender and is more brand and fashion conscious than other consumers.
No Android manufacturer, even Amazon, is going to be able to match the perceived value of Apple's brand. Although Amazon is a liked brand, they've also built an audience that is very price conscious. They will have to beat Apple on features
and deliver a bargain price.
