Appealing to people's vanity is not the only way to sell a product. For an analogy in the smartphone market, iPhones and/or Android may be "cool" at the moment but a lot of us still choose to carry a BlackBerry because our phone is a tool and we need it to work, period. Incidentally, this is the same reason I bought my Edge. It is a tool designed to do a job that nothing else does. Although it has its share of rough edges, like all good design, its form follows function. Hopefully, if there is a version 2.0 it will continue on this path rather than attempting to chase the latest fads.
