In this final volume,
The Gay Adventurer
or The Life and Exploits of the Scarlet Pimpernel
A fascinating and amusing biography and family history of Sir Percy Blakeney. John Blakeney, perhaps a pseudonym for Baroness Orczy's son, wrote the book as a tongue-in-cheek affair, but it is carefully written to provide coherence and amazing detail. Definitely worth a read!
Sir Percy Leads the Band
The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel has disguised themselves as a group of shabby second-rate musicians, in order to save an innocent family from death. But Citizen Chauvelin is hot on their heels, and still looking for revenge against his bitter enemy. The Pimpernel's plans are, however, complicated by betrayal of a trusted League member. Can the Pimpernel save the innocent family? Will Chauvelin have his revenge at last? Can Sir Percy escape death and dismay after treachery and betrayal?!
Gabrielle Damiens, public executioner of Artois, is out for revenge on the Saint-Lucque family. They have taken her youth and dignity, causing her to be imprisoned for years before the Revolution. Blind with her rage and consumed with her plots for revenge, she hardly notices that the new official sent from Paris is really the Scarlet Pimpernel in disguise! Will the St-Lucque family escape to freedom? Does Percy really get beaten up for a second time? Does Marguerite know what's really going on?!
