I just tried to update my firmware, which seemed like a definite mistake the night before I leave on a trip :/

The firmware updater from Sony's site stops during the "Removing current software" portion, then gives me a "Update isn't complete. Please try again" error.

When I try again, it just happens over and over.

I tried a hard reset, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't get the blue flash on the page turning button. Now when I run the updater, it shows the Current software version as 0.0.00.00000.

Anyone have any ideas? It would be swell to have something to read on my vacation.

Try redownloading the update, maybe it got corrupted somehow...

I followed a link on one of the other threads regarding firmware upgrades, and downloaded the upgrade to my local system. I ran it directly, and it resumed its installation and completed correctly.

After 15 panicky minutes thinking I had bricked my Reader, it worked just fine.

p.s. I run my sole Windows machine in a VMware virtual machine. Apparently, that is not good for doing firmware upgrades, as I read right after starting the update. :/ However, I ran the manual update in the VM, and it worked for me.

I've tried the standalone update, which doesn't seem to be working. The utiltity just says "Update isn't complete. Please try again"

you sound like a good candidate to try the new CF Card flash program being developed in the dev forum. Maybe ask in there...-lint
