View Full Version : Tungsten T - Digitiser
skylab 08-10-2003, 08:21 AM Hi Everyone.
anyone owning a TT experiencing Digitiser Drifting?
it's my turn with this problem now.
this has turned out to be THE major problem with the Palm Tungsten T handset. (with a poll on brighthand, 70% of TT users have encountered this problem).
i'm wondering if any of you have found a 'fix' for this problem yet.
much talk about this in other forums suggest a software, and/or a hardware problem.
any inputs on this?
Alexander Turcic 08-11-2003, 12:17 AM Woow... I was hoping for the Tungsten to be more or less "bugfree". I am seriously thinking of buying a new Palm soon, and this time switch from Clie to Tungsten. But hearing about those problems of yours makes me think twice....
skylab 08-11-2003, 12:24 AM Alexander,
the Tungsten T is still a great device. i still love it.
it has a great form, and is powerful enough to run things you need on a day to day basis.
about the Dig Drift,
i really hope that the problem would be resolved soon. it really is irritating the he** outta me. (messing up my Graffiti writing - when using Grafitti anywhere)
if you're really considering a T|T, you are aware the that the new T2 is out right?
haven't yet heard any reports about digitiser drifts on those machines.
palmtungsten 08-16-2003, 01:39 AM Have a T2, so far it's great, and no digitizer problem. I had also a Tungsten T before and didn't had any troulble with that so... guess i was lucky.
Graffiti2 (Jot) is not really good... have to get used to the changes... and it takes more time if you are already familiar with the original graffiti. And... it does not work with some applications (games and some others)
Pride Of Lions 08-18-2003, 03:28 PM I've had my T|T since Nov. 2002 with no digitizer problems whatsoever. It's not a widespread problem.
Alexei 08-19-2003, 09:52 AM I have tried DigiFix 1.2 but it didn't help
St0rmD 09-07-2003, 01:46 PM Since my T|T2 was my first PDA, I had no problem getting used to Graffiti 2. For those of you who are already experts with original graffiti, there is a way to replace the graffiti libraries in OS5.2 so that it uses the old-style writing. PalmInfoCenter.com has a howto, both on their site and in their forums.
jasondv 09-08-2003, 12:04 AM I got my T|T in November 2002 and it had had that problem from the start. The digitizer drifts by a few millimeters -- not enough to keep the device from functioning well, but certainly enough to irritate the he** out of me when it happens.
The funny thing is that I can't predict when it will drift. There are times when I have had to re-calibrate the digitizer three or four times a day, and there are times when I go for weeks without having to re-calibrate the digitizer.
Does anyone know if it is a hardware problem or a problem with the OS (since the T2 doesn's seem to have this problem)?

I think it's a hardware problem related with the ribbon cable (or the corresponding connector) that connects the graffiti area with the "motherboard".
I'm having the same problem for time to time and after opening my Tungsten and pressing softly the cable, the problem disappears for a month or so.
But due to the continious opening/closing of the slider, the problem comes back so I have to open my T|T again and so on...
Certainly a hardware problem...
Pride Of Lions 11-20-2003, 11:13 PM ...it's happening to me too now. You guys aren't all crazy. :D
Waiting for the Wi-Fi enabled T4 or whatever, with good battery and full tablet size.

TungTied 01-28-2004, 01:32 AM My TungstenT demonstrates the same problem on a routine basis.
ChrisL 08-09-2004, 07:28 AM Same thing's happening to me - over the weekend my digitiser locked up completely, but after a few hours bouncing round in my pocket, it is now working...is it relatively simple to get inside and press the connector ribbon - I'm a bit nervous about messing around with innards of pdas!
