View Full Version : Who's going to buy a PINK PRS 350?
GlenBarrington 09-02-2010, 04:57 PM As near as I can tell, every pink thing not aimed at 8 year old girls has ended up on the close-out web sites for 60% off. Even if a Pink PRS 350 is wildly popular and maybe 8 - 10 people buy one, that means a LOT of them will wind up heavily discounted in 18 - 24 months.
isn't it time for a new fad color?
FizzyWater 09-02-2010, 05:16 PM I have a pink 300...and I haven't been 8-years-old since well...1969!
I like it, but I have a bit of history with "pink". I am not a "pink" girl. I like red, royal blue, teal. And yet somehow (because of what was available with a stick-shift when I went to buy a new car), for 10 years I ended up with a pink Hyundai Accent when I bought my first new car.
It because kind of a running joke that I had to have pink things...so when the pink 300 came out (and went on sale, since I was generally happy with my 600 except for the glare), I just had to have one to continue to gag.
I see no reason to upgrade though. I'm very tempted to replace the 600, but for what it does, the 300 is serving me very well.
Latinandgreek 09-02-2010, 05:22 PM I like it, but I have a bit of history with "pink". I am not a "pink" girl. I like red, royal blue, teal.
I like red, royal blue and teal as well, and generally rarely wear pink. For some reason, I really like the pink 350. If the larger-sized readers (the 650 or the 950) were available in pink, I'd get the pink. As it is, I'll probably get either the 650 or the 950 (I'd rather get the 950, but I don't know if I want to wait for it to come out...)

I have to say, if a reader I wanted was available for a lower price in a colour I didn't like, I'd rather get the cheaper, ugly-coloured version rather than pay more. But to each his own! Lets hope that Sony comes out with some Neon-orange or lime green models someday, so that we can get them later at a great discount!
Selcien 09-02-2010, 05:41 PM I pre-ordered one yesterday, it wasn't because I wanted a pink one, but because I simply couldn't stand the thought of owning a silver one. With that said, the more pics that I see showing the pink 350 the more that I like the color. I imagine that seeing it in person will drive all thoughts about a red one out of my head.

I don't like silver tech products either, for some reason. Silver jewelery, silver accessories, purses, shoes... great. Silver cars and gadgets, not for me, thanks.
I do have a purse that matches the pink 350... That pinky-purple colour has really grown on me this last year! I would really like to get the 950; unfortunately it looks like it will only be available in silver.
GlenBarrington 09-02-2010, 06:49 PM So you guys haven't noticed all the Pink stuff on the close-out web sites? It is clearly a color that doesn't have many followers, yet the manufacturers seem to continue to think that it's a great way to attract women customers.
The close-out sales would seem to indicate otherwise!
FizzyWater 09-02-2010, 07:00 PM Not a lot of point in looking for one, since I already own one! ;)
But it's not a complete surprise...both men and women will buy black/dark blue or silver, even red. But I don't know too many men willing to buy pink. So the market is decreased to begin with. And not all women like pink, either.
Clancy_s 09-02-2010, 08:04 PM I'm holding out for the sale. :D
sakura-panda 09-02-2010, 08:18 PM I am on other sites (knitting and scrapbooking) where women go crazy to buy products if they are available in pink. :)
I can see where maybe tech products wouldn't be in the same market because those same women are, for the most part, not interested in readers the way they are now. They are interested, but do not wish to spend the money for one until a truly universal format is established. What I've been seeing is that they are all concerned that their chosen format is going to go the way of Betamax and 3 1/2" floppies, and they don't want to be stuck with books and files that can't be read. Most people -- me included -- are not going to spend time and energy format shifting and managing libraries when that time can be better spent on picking out patterns and planning layouts. :D
They may jump on a pink tool that they were already going to buy, but decide to buy something just because it's pink? Not likely.

I was planning on "hiding" the pink 350 in the black slip case that came with my 600, that way the only time anyone would see that it's pink when I take it to work is when I'm reading on it (that and I didn't want to spend out money on a case), seeing as how I read in my car on my lunch breaks (smoke free building) that would require them to look in my car.
I've decided that I like the color enough not to hide it, and I've ordered the pink zipper case that Sony Style has for it. It's guaranteed to draw a lot of comments but I'll deal with it.
So you guys haven't noticed all the Pink stuff on the close-out web sites? It is clearly a color that doesn't have many followers, yet the manufacturers seem to continue to think that it's a great way to attract women customers.

I don't shop at close-out web sites and I've never paid any mind to how well a color does so I'd have no idea how well pink does. I also have no idea how well silver does but judging by how the 300, 600, and 350 have a silver option, and that the 950 is silver only, I'd have to think that it's popular.
I like pink electronics, I've just never been very comfortable with anyone seeing me with them, or even admitting to liking the color, but I think that pre-ordering the pink 350 pushed me over the edge into not caring anymore.
So to answer your question "isn't it time for a new fad color?" No.
Shopaholic 09-03-2010, 12:46 AM I'd love to get it! Although I think my hubby may blow a gasket as I just got my 300 at Christmas. I prefer the smaller size to the bigger one and love what I've read about it so far. The screen looks very clear but I want to see it in person. I love the larger memory and the dictionary & note taking features are an added bonus.
When I started bugging him for a reader he thought to get the bigger one, 600, but I didn't like the clarity of it. I preferred the 300 because it was so much clearer to my eye and for me, I like the smaller size.
I want to see the unit in person before I start my crusade to get one. LOL
I know what you're saying about pink stuff being in the discount bin but I don't really care. I'll deal with the price I get when I go to sell my pink/rose 300. I'm silly and like the color. I wouldn't buy the thing just because of the color but it would attract me and if I was in the market for one and it had features I wanted or was looking for, that'd push me to buy it. Guess what color my Nano and my glucose meter is? lol

You probably ought to look at the close-out and discount electronics websites. Lots of really good stuff really cheap! Especially since you don't mind the color pink!
And it still doesn't seem to make any economic sense for the manufacturers to make thousands of units in a color that very few people will buy, only to sell them at a serious discount later. It would seem to make MORE sense to make fewer, more bland, units and sell accessories to personalize those units.

PS
Seriously, is it actually pink or dark red metallic? :D
GlenBarrington 09-03-2010, 10:44 AM Thanks for the post.
I never followed Arrowsmith, I'm from the Doors generation. But I enjoyed that song and the video.
I own a pink 300 so would have no problem getting a pink 350... I'll have to keep an eye out for those discounted units! ;)

I disagree with that. I do think there is a need for things in pink. Yes a lot of girls, both big and small, squeal when they see things in pink but there's also the Cancer aspect of it. Pink is the color of breast cancer and for some that means getting something in that color to remind them of a mother, sister, grandmother or aunt that battled with the disease. Many items are made special in pink with funds going to various breast cancer organizations.
If so many are ending up in the discount bin perhaps the manufacturers should look at the quantities they're producing but I think it'd be a mistake to not make the item in that color. I know when I was looking for my pink Motorola phone I had a heck of a time trying to find it. Same with my pink One Touch Ultra Mini in Canada. They had to get the thing straight from the rep whereas they're all over the place in the US.
ardeegee 09-03-2010, 03:44 PM The color doesn't bother me-- the price does. I'd buy a pink one with with depictions of a three-way between Hannah Montana, Unicorns, and Hello Kitty if it was 50 bucks cheaper.

 This is possibly the best post I've ever read on MR!
:thanks:
Terisa de morgan 09-03-2010, 05:50 PM Spain must be different! :D Pink electronic gadgets are more expensive in some cases (and they sell well, I've had some problems to get my pink keyboard :D ) But I really think that the problem isn't pink or not pink, the problem is that mainly all the electronic devices are male-oriented and they are black or silver, puagh  By the way, I've got a white Opus... with a white and pink skin from Decalgirl ;) (and I show it very proud).

Any place/places in particular that you'd care to recommend?

Not enough information. Like what the percentage of a companies product is pink, how many units is made in that color, what percentage of what's produced is profitable, whether that profit makes up for what has to be liquidated.
I'd assume that they have people to figure that out and if they keep making pink products it would seem that they must either feel that it's beneficial to them, or that it's not harmful enough for them to stop producing them entirely.
As for Sony in particular and only with their e-readers, they've had two pink options that I'm aware of. The 300 and now the 350. The 300 had two other color options, the 350 has one other color option. It stands to reason that the amount produced of each color will be determined by how much demand they have, so the pink color shouldn't hurt them unless they get really carried away with how many they make.
As for using accessories, which I take to mean skins, I honestly never gave it any thought. Will definitely go take a look to see what's available for the Sony Readers and laptops while I'm at it, I just hope that I don't end up being tempted into buying the 950.
As for your point, if accessories can satisfactorily alter a bland color than it should also be able to satisfactorily alter a repulsive color. If it was a common practice people would simply buy something in any color and then customize accordingly. This thread is about pink being discounted quite frequently, this would indicate that the starter color is very important, in which case it only makes sense for companies to use colors that they think appeal to their targeted demographic.
michelle06259 09-03-2010, 07:18 PM I put the pink 350 on my B-Day wish list. So if my hubby doesn't get it for me for my birthday in a couple of weeks, I'll be buying it for my self.
Selcien 09-03-2010, 09:27 PM Hope that you don't mind me posting again...
I visited decalgirl and I don't think that I'd like the skins for the Sony Readers any more than I did the skin that I had for the DX (all the areas where the white showed around the skin annoyed me more than the solid white had), but it might be a good solution if I decide to buy the 950 for my mom. I'll have her try out my 350 to see if the new screen is easier for her to read on than the DX I gave her (it makes her eyes burn), if so, and if she wants one, then I'll replace the DX, and then it will likely be sent to my sister (EDIT: Apparently I had previously neglected to show my mom the TTS feature on the DX, I showed it to her, and she definitely doesn't want a Sony now.)
I also want to add that I've been looking at engadgets hands on pics of Sony's new Readers. I still wouldn't choose silver over the other colors that they have but at the same time I no longer find myself repelled by the color, certainly not enough to even think about buying a Kindle.
I'm so looking forward to getting my 350, it really looks like Sony got it right this time.
Mike_73 09-04-2010, 07:29 AM As a guy, I don't usually go with pink. But having an 8 year old girl, I grew accustomed to pink stuff. I also had my wife knit me a cell phone sock as a temporary protector for my new phone until I get a permanent case. She asked me what color I want and I went with a pink-red striped one (just to be different from the crowd. And by the way, it seems that my temporary solution became allready permanent. I have the sock since last christmas and never thought of getting a case again.)
So I would not at all consider pink an ugly color. And given the fact that pink readers could be cheaper in a short time compared to their "serious" colored countrparts, I would go for a pink one. :):):)

Well, Sony offered the PRS-300 in "rose" pink, and if you look at web sites that are still selling the 300, they only have the silver in stock. So either the pink was really popular, or Sony made it in more limited quantities.
They also offered the PRS-300 in a Breast Cancer gift pack on QVC (included the cover and I think the AC adapter) and those sold like hotcakes on QVC. They also tend to sell high used on eBay.
So I suspect Sony knows its market and stocks colors accordingly. The new pink seems more fuschia/magenta than the rose did.
I'm not a big fan of pink myself, but I do get tired of black and silver gadgets. Palm had an awesome Copper Treo that I loved. Maybe I'll head to the skin sites and create a custom one.
kartu 09-04-2010, 03:14 PM Oh my, it's actually really pink pink... :D

Actually it was on close-out. Please remember, I have nothing against pink as such (OR people who buy pink devices!), just that it seems Pink stuff seems to get remaindered out faster and more often than other colors and it doesn't make sense.
Terisa de morgan 09-04-2010, 03:35 PM Oh my, it's actually really pink pink... :D
Please... don't make me this. In another forum a guy told that Sony has made the pink PRS-350 for me :D
dixieknits 09-04-2010, 05:36 PM I will buy a pink "anything" and since the i-phone did not come in pink, I found it a hot pink skin..

Wonder if it works the same way as a guy walking a puppy? (Babe magnet?)
Romiman 09-11-2010, 11:47 AM Holy Moly, what funny tastes here! :p
I have pre ordered a 350 in boring (but beautiful!) dark blue.
Here in Germany, a big book trader is selling out the Sony Readers 300, 505 and 600.
Prices are reduced very intensively. All 505s are sold out, some 600s are left.
And many many 300s. Though having a very good price.
There are only the pink ones to get!
The reason to choose the dark blue housing is not only my taste, it is to improve the contrasts on the screen! I often see, especially at the white Readers, the e-ink-screen looks dark, dirty und misty. But not so on dark devices.
Wishing you lots of fun with your "HannaMontana/Unicorn/HelloKitty-Readers"... ;)

The reason that I didn't choose the dark blue is because it's not an option in the US. At this point I wouldn't want blue but if it had been an option when I made my order I would have been perfectly happy with the blue 350 and the blue zipper case for it.

This right here!
jen6060 09-12-2010, 11:17 PM This thread is funny! Ok I'm a woman, i bought the 300 in pink but actually i didnt like it, bec of the light pink plastic strip in the edges. that was yucks and gave it a cheap feel. so this round, i'm quite tempted by the new 350 and 650, but i'm staying away from pink bec there still seems to be that platicky looking thing on the side. anyway my two boys refuse to be caught dead with my pink 300 so i had to get a decalgirl skin.. i must tell them to read this thread.. real guys buy pink gadgets!
Avwriter 09-12-2010, 11:26 PM The silver 350 has the same plastic thing as the pink does. If you want metal, then you will need to go for the 650.

I'm a girl and I buy a lot of pink stuff for this very reason. btw, when I bought my pink 300, it was the only one left in the shop, compared to the 4 silver ones.

Thread is a bit old, but I just discovered it...too good !
I too ordered the dark blue one at sonystyle.de BECAUSE the pink was not available. Turns out the dark blue is not either (I've been waiting 7 days for a shipping notice, since it is officially "available / on stock" on the site since Sep 23rd, but nothing, and the hotline is clueless at best).
So I just cancelled my order and ordered a pink one from a US vendor instead (the $ / € exchange rate was a kick, I must say). I might end up having to pay a bit more (with taxes and fees) but not much, and it should be here next week (as opposed to "it'll leave the warehouse tomorrow" which I've been hearing from Sony for a week now...).
My mom has my 300 pink, she loves it, and many friends of hers liked it too and ended up buying it. So I would not say that pink is not working. It might not be in anymore in some months though...purple and orange are the new pink I heard :D

I had already orderd the pink 350 but decided to cancel my order and go for the red prs 650. I love pink and also ordered the pink cover with it..but then looking at pics I was kind of afraid it might be too pink. I also have the pink prs 300 and love that color, but it's not hot pink, more a darkish purple/pink, but another reason to cancel was because I didn't want to go back from 6 inch to 5 inch since I also have a prs 600 and love that size screen because I often read in medium or large font.
Anyway for some reason depending on how the light falls, the red PRS 650 sometimes almost looks a bit of pinkish too. Or I'm just color blind. :P
But I'm very happy with my red 650. As a compensation I did order a pink Mighty Bright Light as I opted for a standard sony cover this time instead of the lighted.
babyd 09-30-2010, 09:34 AM Just got my pink 350 today, it was literally delivered about 15 mins ago !!!!!
I am loving it, super cute and the colour is fabulous, more vibrant than the 300 pink, but still a purple/pink not sickly pink. I am mega happy with it, screen is fab, touch screen very responsive.
I also got the 650 in black but have to wait till Hubby comes home to check it as its my Xmas pressie so it has to be checked and put away, at least i have my girly one to get by till then, and my Kindle 3 of course ;)

well, ....I forgot to tell I also ordered the red 650, which just arrived and is charging right now. Love the device, not the colour so much, should have gotten black I think. It is not the bluish-600 red, it is not the orangy-505 red, but something in between. Never mind though, my cover is black and conceals the whole frame of the reader anyway. Can't wait to play, but have to since I really want to start with a full battery this time
Now I am curious about the pink 350 I must say. The 650 feels quite small already (compared to the 600), how small (and how pink) is the 350 gonna be... ?
Xanthe 09-30-2010, 04:41 PM I've got a silver 350 on order from Dell, but I would have ordered a pink 350 if they had had it available. I'm tired of silver/black electronic devices.

LOL I'm the same, I actually am curious to know how pink the 350 will really be..well maybe someday if I got some money again and not have to spend it on Roy Orbison stuff, I might buy a 350 too, pink with pink cover. I am a sucker for pink..*grin*
doreenjoy 10-01-2010, 05:54 AM I buy almost all of my electronics in pink if I can. It keeps boys from playing with them.

October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month", and according to on-line electronics vendor J&R, there will be a special bundle deal on a pink 350 with a (pink) cover for the same price as a coverless 350:
http://www.jr.com/sony/pe/SON_PRS350PC_SL_B
What additional reading content might be included on the device is a mystery.

JWLaRue 10-02-2010, 05:39 PM Anyone have any idea why the different colors for different countries/markets?
I'd really prefer a black or dark blue 350. The lack of one here in the U.S. has stopped me from upgrading my 505.
-Jeff
SeaBookGuy 10-02-2010, 07:51 PM The black 650's features are waykewl compared with the 505 - it's much lighter, too.
JWLaRue 10-03-2010, 04:26 PM ....I am aware that the 650 comes in black. My preference is a 350......
-Jeff
Pegster 10-03-2010, 05:46 PM I would have preferred the blue 350 myself - here in the UK we have silver and pink - so I got silver. Pink *shudders in horror*
doreenjoy 10-03-2010, 06:22 PM In defense of pink, it's the least likely color to be stolen. Or abused by teenaged boys.
One of my sisters has 2 teenaged stepsons. She also is a gadget freak. Her PSP has a Hello Kitty skin on it. The boys won't go near it.
SeaBookGuy 10-03-2010, 06:42 PM I'm a guy and I'd buy one if it were significantly cheaper, nor would I sneer at one as a gift if that was all they had in the store when the giver went to buy one.
GlenBarrington 10-03-2010, 07:10 PM I was going crazy without my 300. I had to drive all the way to the King of Prussia mall to get one at the Sony store. (For those who don't know, it is no where close to Prussia, nor is there anything remotely royal about it.) It is S O O O small and it really DOES make the PRS300's display look tired and outdated.
For those following such things, it was NOT pink. I will probably buy a pink one, but I'll wait 18 months when they are on close-out at Deals2Buy.com.
SeaBookGuy 10-03-2010, 07:57 PM The 350 is certainly ... compact, fitting in all but the smallest adult hands.
Is the 350 smaller than the 300?
doreenjoy 10-03-2010, 08:33 PM Is the 350 smaller than the 300?
Yes, but I'm not sure by how much. The screen size is the same.
doreenjoy 10-03-2010, 08:44 PM You can find a good size comparison here:

SeaBookGuy 10-03-2010, 08:55 PM I noticed that the Sony book page he uses as an illustration is Large font - does that help you with your concern about words-per-page and such?
doreenjoy 10-03-2010, 08:58 PM I noticed that the Sony book page he uses as an illustration is Large font - does that help you with your concern about words-per-page and such?
Yes, thanks. From what I've seen in video reviews, the Large or even Medium font might work well for me on the 350. (I decided if I can't stand the smaller screen, I'll find a deserving friend to gift the 350 to and get the 650)

Thanks for the link. :thanks:
If only the 650 came in pink... *sigh*
GlenBarrington 10-03-2010, 10:04 PM Yes, but I'm not sure by how much. The screen size is the same.
It's just as wide as the 300, and only about a half inch shorter and maybe 20% thinner. Not a huge difference in absolute terms, but enough to make a huge difference in how it 'feels' and it fits much better in the front pockets of a pair of mens slacks.
That, coupled with a truely huge difference in display quality and in the user interface makes me feel the differences are significant and worth the upgrade.
doreenjoy 10-03-2010, 10:32 PM Thanks for the link. :thanks:

You're welcome. It looks a LOT smaller than the 300 in that video. Amazing how different saving a few ounces and a few centimeters will make.
And I feel your pain about the 650 not coming in pink. I've decided to try the 350 cuz I'll get pink and it'll fit more easily in handbags.
SeaBookGuy 10-03-2010, 10:34 PM Handbag! If it were much smaller it'd fit in a shirt pocket!
Handbag! If it were much smaller it'd fit in a shirt pocket!
Then you would have to wear a pink shirt so you would be color coordinated.

I carry a lot in my bag. Enough to supply a small independent country after a tsunami for at least a week until the Red Cross arrive.
The 505, with case, is just a little too large to carry comfortably along with all of the other flotsam and jetsam of my daily life.
Then you would have to wear a pink shirt so you would be color coordinated.
Pink goes with EVERYTHING!
niksknits 10-07-2010, 03:05 PM I have to say, if a reader I wanted was available for a lower price in a colour I didn't like, I'd rather get the cheaper, ugly-coloured version rather than pay more. But to each his own! Lets hope that Sony comes out with some Neon-orange or lime green models someday, so that we can get them later at a great discount!
Reminds me of when I bought my prs-600. I SO wanted the red one, but the black was on clearance at a different store for 30 bucks cheaper. I bought the black one. It was a no-brainer for me.
doreenjoy 10-07-2010, 04:10 PM Mine should be here tomorrow. I'm actually looking forward to the 5" screen. I need the portability.

You'll enjoy it regardless of color! It's a quality reader.
EliNoah 10-08-2010, 08:03 AM I am a middle aged woman and I have a PINK sony 300!
I plan on buying the PINK sony 350 to replace it! Why? Because it is PINK! LOL. My medge cover is pink and matches it. Why did I choose it in the first place---PINK! The Kindle was white and the nook did not exist yet.
If the nook or the kindle came out in pink I would actually consider them over the sony...but I LOVE the size of the 300 it fits nicely in my PINK purse, next to my PINK sony walkman, and my PINK phone and my PINK little camera...
So sue me...LOL
(sigh) Now if they only made the Nikon D700 in PINK...to go with my PINK Dell Laptop.
I just saw an ad for a kobo in pearlized lilac... Ruh-Roh Rastro!
SeaBookGuy 10-08-2010, 12:43 PM The other day, I was chatting with guy with an iPad in a bright red case. He explained that a) he wouldn't be as likely to leave it somewhere after putting it down (which he said had happened!), and b) red is much easier to find in a crowded bag.
I will say that as a guy I'd draw the line at a pink case; I suppose a black one would go best otherwise.
The lilac color on the new kobo is only for the quilting on the back of a white reader. Still, with
a snazzy skin ....
parafluie 10-09-2010, 07:46 AM Then you would have to wear a pink shirt so you would be color coordinated.
 Tsk, tsk, tsk! As consumers of the hottest in technology, we should know that "matchy matchy" is tres passe! Pink on pink? Horrors! :zoiks:
:smack:
SeaBookGuy 10-09-2010, 12:11 PM The devices that I carry in my shirt pocket (for audiobooks) are both black; I own no black shirts.
Latinandgreek 10-09-2010, 12:19 PM I don't know if anyone has mentioned it here yet, but Sonystyle has the Pink-350 with a free case and 2 free e-books, some of the proceeds going for breast cancer research.
Labrat 10-09-2010, 12:36 PM They may jump on a pink tool that they were already going to buy, but decide to buy something just because it's pink? Not likely.
I agree! I had made up my mind to get a 350 and I will always choose pink over other colors. That is, if it's not an icky pink. Barbie pink, NO WAY!
I have a red 650, prefer red to black or silver. :)
SeaBookGuy 10-09-2010, 12:39 PM Since this is a pink thread, Delta Airlines has pink uniforms available for flight attendants this month - women have the option of a pink dress, and I was impressed by the men (including a pilot!) who wore a pink necktie (roughly same dye lot as the dress).
The pink 350 is metallic looking - almost like silver with a distinct reddish glint.

Real men wear pink!
As to the color of the 350, to my eye it borders on plum -- the hottest color this season. Clearly someone at Sony got the memo that 80% of all books are purchased by women.
SeaBookGuy 10-09-2010, 04:17 PM Yes, but men are gadget-hounds. Many of the folks I've seen e-reading in my travels have been male.

Yes, but -- Business travel naturally selects by gender IMNSHO. If you spent your time at Little League or kids' soccer games, you'd see a lot of women with e-readers.
The other huge advantage an ereader offers women is the ability to keep your reading choices private. A lot of women are sick and tired of getting judged by strangers (or husbands) for reading romance novels.
SeaBookGuy 10-09-2010, 04:35 PM I saw a young man on the bus with a red 300. I asked him if he knew about the 350, and he replied "Yes, but this was a gift." I asked if his current book was a downloaded library book, and he replied, "Yes!"

No, they wear Salmon or some other synonym for pink.
Does the 350 have a screensaver like the 650?
doreenjoy 10-09-2010, 11:16 PM Does the 350 have a screensaver like the 650?
Sure does!
ngrant 10-10-2010, 11:36 AM Have you seen the pink shoes, gloves and other accessories that the NFL players are wearing in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month? Looks great. And if you get tired of looking at the color of your reader, you can always skin it (from DecalGirl, for instance).
Ok, so I went ahead and ordered my pink 350.
I'm excited that I get a $50 gift card for free along with the pink breast cancer cover along with 2 free books.
It should ship out on Monday. Hopefully the size won't be an issue. if anything I'll just switch it out for the 650 if push comes to shove.

I also want to mention that the Best Buy in my area Has everyone wearing pink shirts for the month of October. They look good. Each department has a different shade of pink.
doreenjoy 10-23-2010, 07:20 PM I'm shallow enough that when I pull out an electronic gadget, I want people to say "ooh, that's cool."
When I had a K1, someone once asked me "Is that a Brother Label Maker?"
So. Not. Sexy.
The pink 350 gets lots of positive attention.

It all depends on how you say it. Now try to follow me - You walk up, look at the device, issue the person a devastating and smoldering look, smile a little crooked smile. Take a drag of your cigarette the way Bogart would have.
A short pause before you speak in a very low voice, "Say, Is that a BROTHER label maker?"
See? It works best if you have a motorcycle.

I'm with you! I have a black 650, and, although it's fun to read, it would be much more fun if it were PINK!!!!
Fiona 11-05-2010, 05:39 PM I've had my pink 350 for about a week and am TOTALLY in love with it.
I hadn't thought about colour, I just went into the store thinking "I am getting a 350 today no matter what". If they hadn't had a pink one, I would have chosen blue over silver, but they had a pink display model and it was love at first sight.
Now I just have to work out how to keep it hidden from my hubby when he gets back from an overseas trip. The pink will NOT make it blend in.
"What's that little pink thing?"
"It's my ereader."
"I thought you already had one of those?"
"Yes, I do, but this one is better."
"Why do you need two of them?"
... and so on.
laughingdragons 11-05-2010, 10:06 PM I've had my pink 350 for about a week and a half and love it too!
It's more a purple than pink to me though.
elizilla 11-05-2010, 10:10 PM If I have a choice I usually buy these things in those strange bright colors, because it makes them easier to keep track of. A pink MP3 player is much easier to find in a tankbag or purse, and a pink reader would be easier to find in a suitcase or backpack. When I plug my netbook in to charge at a ski condo or campsite, it's easy to know which one is mine, because mine is bright purple and everyone else's is black.
I bought my PRS 650 with credit card points and they only offered the black. So I'm looking for a lime green or hunter orange case, just for the sake of keeping track of it more easily.
FizzyWater 11-12-2010, 12:05 AM Hey, Glen?
Someone's put the silver one on sale (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106451)...what does that do to your theory?
:)
Pagali 11-15-2010, 04:00 PM I wasn't able to get a pink 350, but I compromised by getting a pink Sony lighted cover for my silver 350. :D
