I've made a small software for converting jpeg into pdf (mainly for comics) Edit that actually is now optimized for both iliad and sony reader.
you can get it at this post (http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=9125)
If someone would like to give me some info for the optimal output resolution, mediabox, palette for the sony reader i would be happy to make it compatible also for it :)

The screen-size is 90mm x 120 mm, I guess that 600x800 would work well.
This could be quite usefull for comics, if the images are resized well enough and the text is readable.

thanks for posting over here Kirys. To everyone, this thing prepares raw comic scans incredibly easy for our e-ink devices. Even the iliad outputs look fantastic on the Sony.

Kirys, here is a thread with some info on sizing comics for the reader. if anyone has any better numbers from experimenting please chime in.

also any chance you can add an author entry as well as the document title?

Thanks man, I've tried just uploading the jpg's of some of the comics I have and they are entirely unreadable on the reader.

Maybe I can reformat them but going through that process 20 or so odd times for each comic is a hassle

what you mean exactly for unreadable? the file is damaged or the text is too small?

I've uploaded v0.2.0 that have initial support for optimized output for the sony,
This should display better on the sony.

He said that with just jpg files it was unreadable, not with your converter.

Yeah, what Hadrien said. I haven't tried your converter yet but when I have the time to I'll look foward to it.

P.S. Hadrien I'm still working on those short stories, I'll tell you when I put them up.

Seems like you, guys, don't like a simple and fast way :-) Try to use JAP and forgot about command line crap/bat-files/shareware soft.

care to elaborate? I think JE-Comics is as simple as it gets.

Kirys, PRS support looks good so far. There is still about 1/4" on the left and right side and maybe an 8th of an inch at the top and bottom as wasted space. I tried a normal comic, then cropped all the white space from the same comic and converted it again. Same white space was there. Ill post examples...

(2001c.pdf = cropped comic)

Your images are 770 high by 600 wide. This is too large to be shown without scaling by the Sony Reader and the proportions are wrong which is probably causing the scaled version to have extra white space as the Sony preserves the proportions.

i left my reader at home today so hopefully someone can test your file and help out. also if someone could post suggestions for the correct image size that would be great. Kirys, I see you added the wording for the author line addition, thanks for adding that!

the left and right margin can depend on the input file. The software itself tries to preserve the aspect ratio of the source file :)

Note: This was posted in the above-referenced download thread, but I wanted to share here as well (for the Sony Reader user's benefit). Thanks!

Cool beans! Man, this lil' proggy worked great for the scanlations I was able to find and take it for a test-drive with!
I ended up using this program to stitch all the pages together and then ran the resultant PDF through yet another awesome prog, PDFRasterfarian. This was a quite painless operation and yielded a very readable manga book for my afternoon viewing. In case you're wondering, JECC yeilded a ~26MB PDF (which opened fine and viewed nicely), but I wanted to see how PDFR worked on it as well (actually loaded both results on my Reader to compare side-by-side); this result was a ~12MB LRF that looked awesome. In the past, I've used PDFR on other PDF ebooks that didn't display very well, and knew that it works well, so I decided to team them up.

IMO, the result of both progs were exceptional, though PDFR made the book easier to read due to sharpening and removing of residual ghosting from the original scan. Don't get me wrong, JECC works great as is; I was just testing and wanted a smaller size file (the dimensions for both were the same, so I don't think any resizing needed to be done since JECC already does that) and thoroughly enjoyed the results.

Thanks for the great app, truly unlocking the Reader's potential (or at least mine!). Here's to your karma!

I've added a sample pdf generated for the sony with a lossless compression into the main thread of JEC. Let me know if it does work with the sony, If yes i'll add an option for selecting lossless compression into the software.

Do someone knows the exact sony reader gray shades?
Actually I'm using the same shades of the Iliad that are 16 :)
