Seattle experienced what was essentially a hurricane last night and power was knocked out for a large area, including my home.
I can report that the Sony Reader and the iRex iLiad e-Ink panels work quite well by kerosene lamp. :)

This is extremely reassuring, Scotty. I have been quite worried for a while! :D

According to reports I may be reading by kerosene lamp light most of the weekend. About 1 million people are with out power and the winds are still so crazy no one is sending out repair crews as of yet.
Makes me glad I've kept 2 gallons of kerosene "just in case". And that extra 10% battery life in 2.8 came just in time. :)

That's great to hear scotty. I grew up in a very remote area in Alaska, no electricity (or running water for quite a few years for that matter) in the house. Everything was lit by those little glass kerosene lamps with the bell shaped globe. I haven't seen one for years, let alone tried to read my Iliad by the light of one.
I guess it'll be kind of tough to charge the Iliad though. bet you're wishing for the advertised 10,000 page turns or whatever they told us it was going to be.

I'm planning on recharging the iLiad off one of those Black and Decker car starters which has a cigarette lighter jack on the front. I plug one of those $20 115V inverters into that and plug the iLiad brick into that.
What I need is an iLiad cigarette lighter charger cable. :)

How you doing for internet? Through GSM/CDMA/GPRS/EVDO?
We've had some strong gusts of wind here in the Vancouver area aswell. Nothing too serious though.
