View Full Version : Trouble with the screen...
sarahw2275 10-16-2006, 08:33 AM I've had my Reader for about a week and have now noticed a line that goes across the screen about an inch from the bottom. Its really annoying as it makes the text along the line appear strange. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be or have similar problems? I've had my reader sent from the US to the UK. so its not simple to return it to Sony!!
ultim8fury 10-16-2006, 09:09 AM If you load the reader with a plain black image and a plain white image does the line show as inverse on both ? or does it fail to change. Does cycling the 2 images clear the problem ?
if it's still there then it sounds like a real problem. My sympathies are with you.
Sarah, did you try a complete reset (pin in the hole thing) I don't know if this will help but worth a try
sarahw2275 10-17-2006, 06:57 AM If I try a complete reset, will it delete all the books i've installed on my reader?
tribble 10-17-2006, 07:42 AM No, it is just a "take me off the juice" reset, so the iLiad can start from a clean sheet of registers.
Your data will stay where it was before.

Heh, this is in the Sony Reader forum. ´
But, it should be the same with Sony Reader.

:furious3: White bands are displayed on the audio play screen.
:deal: When playing audio, if the audio playback screen is displayed for an extended period of time, white bands may be displayed on the screen. Changing the display numerous times or stopping audio playback leaving the audio playback screen displayed for 3 or more hours will resolve the issue.

I have the same problem! I'm in India, got the reader from the US, can't return easily, either. For me the line is just about half an inch from the bottom of the screen, so most of the time it doesn't interfere with reading. The line seems to be dead - no change for that line when changing page etc. Reset doesn't delete books, but doesn't help with the line either.... I tried it.
NickMilner 01-16-2007, 12:37 PM I have exactly the same problem with the one I bought a few days ago. :( I'm only in the US for a few more days - should I take it back to a Borders store and ask for an exchange, or does it have to be sent to Sony? What about the fact that my computer is authorised to that particular device?
*cries* :(

Your computer shouldn't be a problem if you get an exchange. Jost log into you already made account in connect and authorize your replacement reader. After that you can delete the old one.
If I were you I would go back to Borders and explain the situation.
RWood 01-16-2007, 01:40 PM NickMilner, run, don't walk to the Boarders. Exchange it as quickly as you can on the slight chance that the next Reader will also have the same problem as it sounds like a manufacturing defect that may impact more than just one Reader.
I would be curious what the serial numbers are of the Readers that have the horizontal lines. Is it a random thing or are they close together and it is a problem with a batch of the Readers.
HarryT 01-17-2007, 01:45 AM Certainly sounds like a screen defect. Definitely shouldn't be there!

mine is 14838930 0013895
NickMilner 01-17-2007, 12:36 PM Mine's within 5000 of yours.
NickMilner 01-20-2007, 02:12 PM I took it back to Borders and exchanged it. The new one has been ok so far, but I'm back in the UK now so I hope it stays ok.
RWood 01-20-2007, 03:16 PM Glad to hear that you made the exchange before you left the States. We all hope that your replacement Reader keeps its unlined screen.
NickMilner 01-23-2007, 03:37 AM Thanks. It's still ok so I'm optimistic that I've got a good one this time! :) Surprisingly, I'm enjoying Vanguard atm; I never saw myself as a Trek reader...
