View Full Version : Tungsten C vs. NZ-90
Alexander Turcic 06-10-2003, 03:47 AM Went today to a media store to see if it was time to buy a new handheld. To my joy, I was able to play with the new Tungston C (http://www.palm.com/products/handhelds/tungsten-c/). They also had the other PDA I was thinking of, a Clie NZ-90 (http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/micros/clie/models/nz90.html).
But which one to buy? I really really love the Sony displays. 320x480 is just lovely, especially for a book fanatic like me. The 2 mega-pixel camera is nice - not sure though if I would really use it since I already own a digital Nikon SLR camera. On the other hand, I love the built-in keyboard, the memory, the speed and the wi-fi support in the new Tungsten. Not to mention that the Tungsten is only half the price of the Sony (at least in my country).
So from my first experience I would go for the Tungsten. Any objections? Or should I better wait a little longer and see how Sony responds to Palm's latest flagship?
brahamt 06-10-2003, 02:58 PM Like the faetures of the NZ-90, hate the size.
My personal preference has been the NX series. Most of the features of the NZ but with a smaller price. If you are like me and don't care for the camera you could get the NX-60, but this is proving harder to find these days.
They reviewed the Zire 71 on The Screen Savers and they thought the screen on that was better than on the Tungsten.
In any case, according to some rumors I've seen on ClieSource, the new NXs may be out as early as July in the US. No idea about Switzerland, but something to think about.
joemac 06-11-2003, 09:52 AM I have always used a Clie, but the Tugsten C looks very attractive, especially with the built in WiFi. The one weakness of the Tungsten C that I see is the mono music player. For that reason, I think it would be a good idea to wait--if music is important to you.
renbud 06-11-2003, 01:27 PM It isn't a C, but I love my Tungsten T! I could live without the slide out feature for graffiti, but with the C's keyboard that shouldn't bother you. If you like the Clie (or Palm, for that matter) but don't like the price, consider buying from a reputable dealer on ebay. I bought mine (a store sample) for only a little over $200 on ebay, and it works like a dream!
drc54 06-12-2003, 12:13 AM Went out last night and bought a Clie TG50. Not for me, but a friend who just wanted a Bluetooth enable PDA.
What I find surprising is that in Singapore, SONY keeps their distributor in check. Like any retailer, you can ask them for special deal. Not for the Clie. The salesman says, once SONY finds out he's giving a discount, they'll freeze shipment for 6 months.
Anyway, it's S$699 (about $400) for this model. The Zire 71 sells for S$550 (US$315). So, having read all the promises of Bluetooth yet to be fulfilled :-(, I would go for the Zire and buy a Bluetooth card instead. But then again, it's not my dollar, just helping a fried ;-)

jfs01 06-13-2003, 10:22 PM NZ seems too big...T|C looks good esp. WIFI (if you need it). I'd probably go with the Zire 71 (good price & nice features even w/o the camera) or wait and see on the NXs.
drc54 06-23-2003, 12:54 PM I've been interested to replace my 515 and the Zire 71 looks tempting. So far, have not heard any negative on this product, except of the "consumer" model versus a Tungsten "professional" brand image as they want us to believe.
