I love Calibre and Stanza (for my itouch) however I recently obtained a large supply of lrf files from a friend. The problem is when I convert some of these using Calibre (from lrf to epub) it randomly turns instances of "LL" to just "L" (not case sensitive). For example "will" becomes "wil " and "silly" becomes "sil y". These errors are not in the original lrf file. Am I missing some step in the conversion process?

Hi. I'm having exactly the same issue converting some PDF's to epub format for the Sony PRS600, I've been resorting to SIGIL to try and correct this and other issues recently.
It's also doing other strange things to the format of some of my pdfs, I'm not sure if it's something that's come along in the latest version, I've been using it to convert PDF's to epub for about six months now and I'm having quite a few wierd issues with my latest batch of conversions.

I guess I can understand your frustration, Alienman and Chromedome, but I'm lucky not to share it. If an author or editor makes a spelling mistake or leaves a typo in place, that can put me off an entire book. Technology-generated error, though (especially when words are still readable), I can live with. It also tends to be a repeat offence like that mentioned above and I can programme myself to not even notice after a while when and error is consistent. Hope the slips you've noticed don't spoil the reading experience for you and that they're easily fixed. Cheers. Neil

One possible explanation is typographical ligatures. If, for example, the original pdf file used a ligature glyph for the 'll' sequence, it may convert to a single l followed by a space. I haven't seen this with ll in particular (is there even a ligature for that?), but I have seen it with 'fl' ligatures turning into 'f ' (that's an f followed by a space).
Or it could be some other thing entirely, of course.

This is a known problem that is fixed in the new conversion engine (at least for those pdf files that I have in my possession that showed this problem).

Hi Kovid,
Updated to 0.6.45, deleted the problem ebook, added the correct PDF ebook and Calibre is doing the exact same problem, "ll" becomes l-space, really - real y, successfully - successful y, all - al , tell - tel , etc
